Artist Statement

Above all, I am interested in what makes us so uniquely common, so commonly unique, in those oh so private parts of our lives where we meet the rest of humanity and confront our need to be loved, our longings, our feelings of inadequacy, or abnormality. In this rereading of the everyday, what can be seen as the most boring people and non-events can become for me the most fascinating subjects.

I am currently exploring ways of subverting more conventional strategies such as childrens book illustration as a way to provoke surprises and the unexpected. The works are superficially easily readable but fracture upon a closer look.

As far as I can remember, drawing has always run parallel to fibre crafts. Indeed, I have been drawing compulsively since my tender years, and embroidery and knitting have always been part of my life. About five years ago, I started felting and weaving. However, it is not that long ago that I started integrating fibres in my art. Still, most of the time, without noticing it, I use fibre arts very differently than the other mediums I work with. I seem to create more abstract forms that reflect more conceptual notions.

Print is something relatively new for me. It has been a real revelation, as it allows me to work with images and layering to create very fine pieces, and to have many copies of it.

I aim to make pieces on which people can reflect. I am fueled by a desire to achieve a great level of artistry in my art.
